The Artisans Order of Mutual Protection return June 11-13 for its 65th annual weekend in Ocean City. The Artisans are headquartered in Philadelphia and were formed over 100 years ago to provide insurance for working people.

On Sat., June 12, the organization will present its annual Miss Artisan Pageant, 8 p.m. at the Music Pier, Boardwalk and Moorlyn Terrace. It is during this colorful event that the Artisans select the young lady to represent them for the coming year. There will be entertainment and admission is free and open to the public.

The Ocean City Humane Society will hold its Family Golf Tournament, at the Ocean City Municipal Golf Course, on Sat., June 12. Competition starts at 8:45 a.m. Families and teams of four register at a cost of $30 per person. Single entrants will be assigned a team at random. It will be a scramble format tournament. Prizes will be awarded and refreshments served. (Deadline for entry is June 9). Donations raised go directly towards veterinary care of the shelter's animals. The Miss New Jersey Pageant kicks off in Ocean City on Wed., June 16 with a colorful Boardwalk Parade at 7 p.m. All 27 of this year's contestants will dress in unusual costumes depicting Exotic Creatures on the Boards. There will be music, floats and many special attractions. The Parade will be led by Miss New Jersey Ashley Shaffer. The Miss New Jersey Pageant will be held at the Music Pier, with preliminaries June 17-18 and the final on Sat., June 19. Tickets are available by calling Mary Lou Cake at 856-424-3564. The Ocean City Cop Chase, A 5K run, 2 mile fitness walk and children's events is set for June 12.The event supports scholarships for high school seniors, a Christmas toy drive for local youngsters and distribution of free bike helmets. The 5K race starts 8 a.m. at Wonderland Pier, 5th and Boardwalk. Two mile walk starts 8:15 a.m. Registration is at Ocean City High School Track, 6th St. off Boardwalk, from 6:45 to 7:45.a.m. The Ocean City Police Department will host a series of short dash races at the High School track after the 5K run for children 5-12. A Beach Volley Ball Tournament is set for Sat., June 12 at the 5th St. Beach from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Entry fee is $100 for a four person coed team, $120 the day of the tournament. Under the Boardwalk is the theme of the Ocean City Arts Center's June gallery exhibit. Artists portray the area through marine life, children playing in the sand, etc.The exhibit is free and runs through June 30 at the Center 17th and Simpson Ave., call 399-7628.

Sunday, June 20th (kicking off Restaurant Week - June 20-27) at noon will be the first Hungryman Relay Race. Relay teams of four start at 6th Street - eat a donut, run to 9th Street, eat a slice of pizza, run back, tag the next teammate and off they go until all four have finished. Time is Running Out to enter your doggie in the Dog of the Year Contest sponsored by the Ocean City Dog Park. Deadline for application is June 20th. The Committee will select twelve dogs to compete for the honor. The contest runs July 25 through Sept. 12 with the winner announced in October. Applications are available at City Hall Annex and other locations.

Help Save A Life: Kristie Clarkson, a South Jersey area adult, needs a double lung transplant.
