Ocean City was just named the Best Family Boardwalk and the Best Beach in a poll released Sunday by The Press of Atlantic City. This resort has won many awards in the past few years including the Best Family Beach Resort in the Country by the Travel Channel.

August 5th, 7:00 - Ocean City Historical Museum, Thursday Nights at the Museum. Digging Up the Past with Jim Campbell. Learn about cemeteries in Cape May County and find out where local elders and personalities are buried from 1680 to the 1940s. Aug. 5-7: The Art of Surfing Exhibition at the Music Pier, Boardwalk and Moorlyn Terrace, has become a welcome companion to the Boardwalk Art Show. This event features original work from prominent surfing artists, live music, memorabilia and the opportunity to meet the artists. The event is free. Hours are 7 to 10 p.m. on Thurs., and noon till 10 p.m. on Fri. and Sat.

Aug. 6-8: Ocean City's 48th Annual Boardwalk Art Show is set for Friday through Sunday, Aug. 6-8. Artists from Maine to Florida will display and sell their work including watercolors, oils and photography. The Boardwalk Art Show has been traditionally a good place to obtain outstanding artwork at reasonable prices. Show hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Fri. and Sat. and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday. Aug. 7: The 34th Annual Boys and Girls Surf Fishing Tournament is set for Sat., Aug. 7 from 9 a.m. till noon at the north end beach adjacent to the Long Port Bridge. Registration is 9 a.m. till 10 a.m. at the Longport Bridge Parking Lot with fishing from 10 a.m. till noon. Parental supervision is required. Age groups are 8-10, 11-13, 14-16. Aug. 7: The OCHS GIRLS TENNIS TEAM will have a FREE car wash on Saturday August 7th from 8:00 to 1:00 at the Ocean City Tabernacle 550 Wesley Avenue Come out and support the girls!

Aug 9: Stockton State College presents Winger, one of the best hard rock bands in the world on Mon., Aug. 9 at the Music Pier, 8 p.m. The band has scored two platinum albums along with numerous single hits. Tickets are $25 and may be ordered online at www.ocnj.us or by calling 609-525-9248.

Aug. 10: The Pamper Scamper, the City's popular baby crawling race is set for 9:30 a.m., Tues., Aug.10 on the 6th St. Beach. Registration starts at 9 a.m. Entry is free. This is a fun event to watch as babies are coaxed to the finish line by parents frantically waving Teddy Bears and other items (in one case a cell phone) to get their babies to move.

Aug. 10-11:The Ocean City Pops presents Only Make Believe with singers Jon Jarboe and Liz Filios 8 p.m., Aug. 10 and 11th at the Music Pier, Boardwalk and Moorlyn Terrace. This Broadway musical review includes songs from Show Boat, The Secret Garden, Sweet Charity, Fantasticks, Candide and others. Tickets are $20/$12. Aug. 12: The City's 101st Baby Parade is set for Thurs., Aug. 12 starting 10:15 a.m. Route is 6th to 12th St. on the Boardwalk. There will 8 musical units, floats and several hundred children ages infants to 10 years of age in strollers, wagons, carriages, small floats, etc. Quickest way to enter the Parade is to stop at the Music Pier Information Center, Boardwalk and Moorlyn Terrace, open seven days a week from 9 a.m. till 9 p.m. There is a $5 entry fee per child. Each entrant is given a loving cup souvenir.

Peaches Lukens who has done so much over the years to provide holiday dinners for the needy and lonely of the community and who has organized many charity events and also worked for years on behalf of animal rights, will be grand marshal of the Baby Parade. Peaches and her husband , Mike, were recently the recipients of the Ocean City Exchange Club's Golden Deeds Award.

Aug 12: Following the Baby Parade, the City holds its annual Twins Contest 6:30 p.m. on Thurs., Aug. 12 in front of the Music Pier. Entry is free. Registration is 6 p.m. Prizes are given to twins who look the most and least alike in various age categories.

Aug: 14: The Miss Ocean City Pageant is set for 8 p.m. on Sat, Aug. 14th at the Music Pier. Tickets are $15 at the door. Dana Piccoli has been an outstanding Miss Ocean City. She will preside over the pageant and crown her successor.

Ocean City Farmer's and Crafter's Market begins Wednesday, June 30th and runs every Wednesday through August from 8am-1pm at 6th and Asbury. Jersey Fresh produce and hand made crafts.

Wednesdays for Kids at the Ocean City Museum, a fun, half-hour program including a mini-tour and art-making activity at 10:30, 11:30, or 1:00. The program is recommended for children ages 4 to 9 years old. Younger and older siblings are welcomed. Cost is $3/per person. No registration required. For more information call 609.399.1801. The Museum is located in the Community Center, 1735 Simpson Avenue, Ocean City.

Evenings Along Asbury - Open air artists, demonstrations, activities, music, outside dining, shopping and dining specials, free parking, 6th-11th Streets on Asbury, 5-8pm.

Historic Inn-to-Inn Tours begin Thursday, July 1st and run every Thursday through August. Tours begin at 2pm. Tickets are $13 per person. Trolley boards at the ticket booth at the corner of 7th and Central Ave beginning at 1:30pm. Tickets may be pre-purchased at the Ocean City Welcome Center at 16 East 9th Street.
